Portrait of Martin Luserke
German taleteller, writer and progressive educator Martin Luserke (1880–1968) as teacher and headmaster of progressive boarding school Schule am Meer on the East Frisian island Juist in Prussia using a loud hailer/megaphone in the mornings to wake up the scholars with a seamanly "rise, rise...". One day some late risers tried to hinder this when they clogged the magaphone, but it didn't prevent them from rising-up early at 6:40 a.m. to start the day when running through the dunes for early morning gymnastics and to the beach for a dip in the cold Sea.Credit: Unknown author
