Memorial Tribute

Ruth Laverne Bryant, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and cherished presence in the lives of so many, entered into God’s eternal care on July 20, 2026, at the age of 89.

Ruth was born on April 27, 1937, in Mansfield, Louisiana, to John and Corrine Bryant. The youngest of eleven children, she grew up surrounded by family, faith, and the values that would help shape the remarkable woman she became.

She graduated from high school in Mansfield, Louisiana, and continued her education at Northeast Louisiana State College, where she attended for a short period of time. As a young woman, Ruth’s journey took her from Louisiana to Maryland, where she lived with her brother Johnny for two years before eventually making her way west to Los Angeles, California.

It was in Los Angeles that Ruth began a new chapter of her life. After securing a position with the United States Post Office, she soon met the love of her life, Seth Charles Bryant. The two were married on March 20, 1965. Although their years together were far too brief, the love they shared was deeply meaningful. Seth passed away in 1969, leaving Ruth to raise their two daughters, Lisa and Sandy, on her own.

Faced with the tremendous responsibility of raising two daughters without her husband by her side, Ruth met life with unwavering strength and determination. She devoted herself to creating a stable, loving home for Lisa and Sandy and worked tirelessly to ensure they were cared for and supported.

Ruth built an impressive 37-year career with the United States Post Office, ultimately rising to the position of Supervisor. Her advancement was a reflection of the same qualities she carried throughout her life: dedication, integrity, perseverance, and a strong work ethic admired by those who knew and worked alongside her.

But there was much more to Ruth than her work. She loved sports — any sport! Football, basketball, and baseball were among her favorites, and she genuinely enjoyed the excitement of the game. She also loved working puzzles and going to the casinos, where, much to the delight of those who knew her, she was very lucky.

Ruth also possessed a natural gift for connecting with people. She could walk into a room filled with complete strangers, strike up a conversation with anyone, and before long, there were no strangers in the room. Her warm and engaging nature allowed her to connect easily with people from all walks of life.

Above everything else, Ruth’s greatest joy was her family. She poured her heart into the people she loved, and the family she nurtured became one of the greatest reflections of her life. Her resilience, kindness, strength, and quiet but powerful love will continue to live within each generation that follows her.

Ruth was preceded in death by three sisters, Gladys, Eva, and Ella, and three brothers, Thomas “Bubba,” Mose, and Johnny.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Ms. Margaret Harris; her two daughters, Lisa and Sandy; her grandchildren, Tavee and Joshua; her grandson-in-law Brent; her great-grandchildren, Cairo, Creed, and Caz; her son-in-law, Jeffrey; her step-grandson, Kegan; her brother-in-law, Reverend Timothy Strange; along with her many beloved nieces and nephews.

Ruth’s life was one of strength, perseverance, love, and devotion. The legacy she leaves behind cannot be measured simply in years, but in the generations she nurtured, the lives she touched, the conversations she shared, the lessons she modeled, and the love she gave so freely.

Those who loved Ruth will carry a piece of her spirit with them always — her resilience, her kindness, her determination, and that quiet but unmistakably powerful love that belonged uniquely to her.

Her earthly journey has ended, but the love she planted throughout her 89 years will continue to grow through every life she touched.

Forever cherished. Forever remembered. Never forgotten.
